【作品紹介 / About the Album】
JJ役で声優出演したWASEI CHIKADAと、lain本編の音楽を担当した竹本晃（タケモトアキラ）が楽曲を制作し、劇中に存在した「クラブ・サイベリア」のコンセプトアルバムとして1998年に発表された『Cyberia Mix』。その続編的位置付けとして、『serial experiments lain』放送20周年となる2018年7月7日にリリースされたのが『Cyberia Layer_2』です。1998年から20年。アニメの世界が予見していたかのように、Wiredと現実の境界がより曖昧になっていく時代の中で、「現代のサイベリア」を音楽として具現化することをテーマに制作されました。
参加したのは、クラブ・サイベリアのDJ・JJを演じたWASEI “JJ” CHIKADAをはじめ、Technoシーンを牽引してきたQ’HEY、Houseミュージックシーンで長く活動するKO KIMURA、国内外のレーベルから作品を発表するHIDEO KOBAYASHI、ゲーム音楽からオーケストレーションまで幅広く手がけるTaQなど、多彩なDJ／ミュージシャンたち。CDジャケットのアートワークは、『serial experiments lain』のオリジナル・キャラクターデザインを担当した安倍吉俊による描き下ろしです。
発売後は国内外のlainファン、クラブミュージックファンから長く支持され、完売後も再販を望む声が寄せられていました。2018年の発売から8年。長らくSold Outの状態が続いていましたが、ファンからの強い要望を受け、2026年に再プレスしました。
Released in 1998, Cyberia Mix was conceived as a concept album for “Club Cyberia,” the fictional club featured in *serial experiments lain*. The music was created by WASEI CHIKADA, who voiced JJ in the series, and Akira Takemoto, who composed music for the anime.Positioned as a successor to Cyberia Mix, Cyberia Layer_2 was released on July 7, 2018, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of serial experiments lain.Twenty years after 1998, as the boundary between the Wired and reality had become increasingly blurred—almost as if the anime had anticipated the world to come—the album was created around the concept of giving musical form to a “Cyberia for the present day.”
The album features a diverse lineup of DJs and musicians, including WASEI “JJ” CHIKADA, who played Club Cyberia DJ JJ in the anime; Q’HEY, a leading figure in Japan’s techno scene; KO KIMURA, a longtime presence in house music; HIDEO KOBAYASHI, whose releases span labels in Japan and abroad; and TaQ, whose work ranges from game music to orchestration.The CD cover features original artwork by Yoshitoshi ABe, the original character designer for serial experiments lain.
Since its release, the album has continued to receive support from lain fans and club music listeners both in Japan and overseas, with repeated requests for a new pressing after it sold out.Eight years after its original release in 2018, and following a long period of being sold out, Cyberia Layer_2 was repressed in 2026 in response to strong demand from fans.
